City of Greensboro issued the following announcement on Sept. 10.
Participatory Budgeting Voting Begins September 10 at NC Folk Festival
Residents ages 14 and older can help decide how to spend $500,000 in City funds by voting in Participatory Budgeting (PB) Greensboro. Vote online beginning at 12 noon, September 10 until October 15 at www.PBGreensboro.com. Or vote in-person at the PB Greensboro booth at the NC Folk Festival September 10-11, in Downtown Greensboro. English and Spanish ballots are available.
“Participatory Budgeting lets residents of Greensboro have a direct impact on the City budget,” said Greensboro Budget Director Jon Decker. “PB gives residents a chance to tell us what they need in their neighborhood. We encourage everyone 14 and older to vote.”
PB Greensboro is a democratic process that allows residents to decide how to use public funds on projects or programs within their City Council District. Since its inception in 2014, residents have voted to fund more than 70 projects around the city.
This year, community volunteers helped turn 200 plus ideas submitted be residents into 32 proposed projects that will appear on the ballots. This year’s proposed projects include street sign toppers to identify historically significant neighborhoods, bus shelters, water bottle filling stations, outdoor fitness equipment, teen programs, recreation center improvements, kayaks, benches, and more.
