County of Johnston issued the following announcement on Jan. 10.

The Johnston County Health Department is offering two classes.

If you wish to stop smoking, please attend the American Lung Association’s Freedom from Smoking Cessation Classes.

In this free course, you will get the knowledge and methods you need to support your attempts to stop smoking.

 There will be a total of 8 sessions: January 23, 30, February 6, 13, 15, 20, 27, and March 6.

The Health Department, located at 517 N. Bright Leaf Boulevard in Smithfield, will host the sessions on those dates from 6 to 7:30 p.m.

For further information, please contact Kimetha Fulwood at the Johnston County Public Health Department at 919-989-5200 or Kimetha.fulwood@johnstonnc.com.

Childbirth education classes are recommended in the third trimester of pregnancy.

This session will assist you and your partner in preparing for your child’s birth.

Eight to ten hours will be spent in class overall. Anyone may enroll in this class.

If you are covered by Medicaid, your doctor will need to send in a recommendation form by fax.

If you are a non-Medicaid client or have private insurance, you must bring evidence of income for you and your family to JCPHD.

The Johnston County Public Health Department does not file private insurance.

Cashiers are available at The Health Department Monday through Friday, 8 a.m. to 5 p.m.

Please call the Johnston County Health Department at 919-989-5200 if you have any questions.
