Eastbound lanes of West Friendly Avenue closed after water main break

The City of Greensboro announced on April 29 that both eastbound lanes of the 3900 block of West Friendly Avenue, between Rodman Road and Idlewild Avenue, are closed due to an eight-inch water main break. About 20 customers in the area are currently without water service.

City crews are working at the site and expect repairs, lane reopening, and service restoration by 9 p.m. tonight. Signs and traffic cones have been placed to alert drivers, who are encouraged to use alternate routes while work continues. The city provided a map for reference regarding the affected area.

Residents may notice discoloration or cloudy water from their taps once repairs are completed. The city advises running cold water for several minutes through a faucet without an aerator—such as an outside spigot or bathtub—until the water runs clear.

For emergencies related to water or sewer services—including additional main breaks, sewer stoppages, or changes in taste, odor, or color of drinking water—the public is urged to contact Water Resources’ 24-hour Dispatch at 336-373-2033.

More information about ongoing lane and road closures is available at www.greensboro-nc.gov/RoadProjects. Residents can also subscribe there for email notifications about upcoming street work in Greensboro.
