When it comes to bicycling, there are several distinct types of riding to consider — from casual rides around the neighborhood to logging serious miles on a road bike to off-roading with a mountain bike.

Regardless of an individual rider’s preference, the Easy Rider! bike series is there to help people get riding again.

“There’s many, many rides that happen every day of the week — road rides, mountain bike rides, different triathlon training,” Dale Brown, owner of cycles de ORO, Inc., told the News & Record. “But none of them are for beginners or people who have not ridden maybe in years, or anybody who just wants a nice conversational ride instead of, you know, hanging on for dear life.”

The Easy Rider! series aims to change that. Families are encouraged to come and enjoy the ride. Participants can figure on 10 to 20 rides, weather permitting, between now and the fall.

Some riders will come a couple times and feel they are comfortable and that they have regained enough confidence to go out on their own for longer ventures. Others come for every ride, Brown said.

Various representatives from the Greensboro Velo Club, Bikesboro, Bicycling in Greensboro and cycles de ORO have volunteers who will go on the weekly rides. A typical journey will cover up to about 10 miles and take about an hour.

The Tuesday evening rides will start and end at cycles de ORO, with a meet-and-greet session at 6 p.m., followed by saddling up at 6:30. Riders will ride either on greenways or low-traffic streets for safety and use bike lanes if they are available.
