FOIA Request to Guilford County Election Department Regarding Pre-Election Voting Machine Test Reports on October 30, 2024. The Greensboro Reporter, a media organization committed to providing comprehensive and accurate news coverage on local governmental affairs, has submitted a request for records under the North Carolina Public Records Law, G.S. §132-1.

We are seeking information about the pre-election tests conducted on voting machines used in the county’s elections. Specifically, we have requested the reports be provided in PDF format and include details such as the test date, machine manufacturer, machine model number, and whether each machine passed or failed its test.

As members of the media, we are involved in gathering and reporting news to the public. Access to public records is essential for us to fulfill our professional responsibilities, which include holding public institutions accountable and providing transparency to the public. Given our role in disseminating information, we believe we are eligible for a fee waiver as media professionals.

The Guilford County Election Department has yet to respond to our request.
