FOIA Request to Guilford County Sheriff’s Office regarding undocumented person’s arrest records on August 18, 2025.

The Greensboro Reporter has submitted a Freedom of Information Act (FOIA) request to the Guilford County Sheriff’s Office. The request seeks access to inmate records of individuals held on Immigration and Customs Enforcement (ICE) detainers from February 2, 2025, through July 2, 2025. Additionally, the request asks for a list of detainees transferred to ICE during the same period and details of the charges filed against each individual.

The request was made under the North Carolina Public Records Law, G.S. §132-1., with a preference for receiving the information in electronic format. The Greensboro Reporter has also requested advance notice of any potential fees associated with accessing these records and has sought a fee waiver based on their role as a media organization.

This inquiry is part of an effort by The Coalition Opposing Governmental Secrecy, a non-profit organization that supports media companies and public advocacy groups in investigating governmental agencies. Their mission includes utilizing Freedom of Information and Sunshine Laws to enhance transparency and inform the public about government actions.

We look forward to receiving this information in an electronic format as it will greatly aid in our reporting efforts. As always, we remain open for any questions or clarifications regarding this request.
