The Greensboro Parks and Recreation Department announced on April 29 a series of events planned for the month of May, beginning with the start of boat rental season at local lakes.
The department’s schedule features activities for residents of all ages, including outdoor recreation, community gatherings, and educational programs. These events are designed to encourage community engagement and provide opportunities for exercise and social connection.
Boat rentals will be available from May 1 through October 31 at Lake Brandt, Lake Higgins, and Lake Townsend for individuals aged nine and older. Kayaks, canoes, paddleboards, and sailboats will be offered to visitors interested in exploring city lakes. More information is available on the City of Greensboro website.
Other recurring programs include Stroller Rollers on first Fridays from May through October along the Downtown Greenway at Woven Works Park. The program invites parents with children in strollers to participate in group walks that explore downtown play spaces. Additionally, walkers and runners can join “Run Up On Me” every Wednesday throughout May at Country Park for an evening of exercise.
Special events this month include “When Life & Sports Connect,” a sports talk aimed at women and young girls scheduled for Wednesday, May 6 at Glenwood Recreation Center; the annual Warnersville Southside Reunion festival on Saturday, May 9; guided tours titled “The Plants and the Planted” at Green Hill Cemetery on May 9-10; Nature Preschool sessions focusing on nature topics for children ages two to six; a canvas painting class led by artist Darlene J. McClinton under her mural “Bridging the Gap” on April 30; and Lindley Summer Bash family festivities set for Saturday, May 23.
Registration is required or recommended for some activities as noted by organizers. All programs are subject to cancellation due to inclement weather where applicable.
