The Greensboro Parks and Recreation Department announced on May 11 that local pools and spraygrounds will begin opening for the summer season starting Memorial Day weekend.

The department said Peeler Pool at 1300 Sykes Avenue and Warnersville Pool at 601 Doak Street have passed inspection and are scheduled to open Saturday, May 23, from 11 a.m. to 6 p.m. Barber Park Sprayground at 1500 Barber Park Drive and Keeley Park Sprayground at 4100 Keeley Road will also open on May 23, operating from 11 a.m. to 5 p.m. The splash pad at LeBauer Park, operated by Greensboro Downtown Parks, Inc. in partnership with Parks and Recreation, is set to open Monday, May 25, with daily hours from 10 a.m. to 8 p.m.

According to the department, weather permitting, all pools and spraygrounds will operate on weekends only through June 15 before switching to weekday hours. General daily admission is free at each facility; group reservations for the spraygrounds are available for a fee.

Lindley Pool remains closed as it continues undergoing structural and mechanical improvements after shutting down in August of 2022. The department reported that during final system checks in early this year, engineers found the sand filter tanks had deteriorated beyond safe use with up to seventy-five percent metal loss in some areas. As a result of this issue, the filter system must be replaced before reopening.

The City has completed its bid process and selected a vendor who will install a new filter system meeting all Guilford County Health Department requirements. Once installation is complete, officials hope Lindley Pool can reopen later this summer.
