Washington, DC – On June 21, Congresswoman Kathy Manning (NC-06) honored Zoe Stuckey, a Greensboro resident and student at the University of North Carolina at Greensboro, for her achievement in earning the Congressional Award Gold Medal. The Congressional Award is the United States Congress’ only charity and the highest honor bestowed upon a youth civilian through the U.S. Senate and House of Representatives.
“It’s my privilege to recognize Zoe with the Congressional Award Gold Medal. Earning the Congressional Award Gold Medal requires patience, perseverance, and sincere commitment to public service. Zoe demonstrated these qualities through the hundreds of hours of volunteering, physical training, exploration, and personal development initiatives she accomplished in pursuit of this award. I’m grateful for her service to the Greensboro community and look forward to seeing her future accomplishments in education and counseling,” said Congresswoman Kathy Manning (NC-06).
To earn the Gold Medal, participants are required to complete:
- 400 hours of voluntary public service,
- 200 hours of a personal development activity of their choice,
- 200 hours of a physical fitness activity of their choice,
And a 5-day, 4-night expedition or exploration over the course of at least two years.
“Participating in the Congressional Award taught me the value of intentionality and patience. It shifted my perspective on service hours and highlighted the purpose behind earning the accolade. The program’s minimum time requirements encouraged me to avoid rushing and seek gradual progress. Despite challenges and frustrations, I realized the importance of being intentional with my actions and decisions. The Congressional Award emphasized the significance of setting clear objectives and staying focused. It reminded me to give back to my community and country while pursuing my goals. This journey has been a source of gratitude and inspiration,” said Zoe Stuckey, 2023 Congressional Gold Award Medal Recipient.
