Total state tax collections in North Carolina reach $26.9 billion, Census Bureau reports

By Glenn Minnis | Nov 26, 2019

North Carolina is home to the 11th-highest state revenues in the country, according to newly released Census data.

According to state government statistics, property tax revenues in the state were unavailable, but sales and gross receipts taxes totaled $11.7 billion, while license fees and income taxes combined for an additional $15 billion.

Researchers said the figures do not include taxes levied by local governments, which often are the measure used to establish property tax levels.

Government officials defined the term “state government” as the executive, legislative and judicial branches along with agencies, panels and public bodies that are at least partly independent from the state.
