Duke Energy continued efforts to provide more clean-power through the starting of construction on two solar projects, the company said in late July.
The 69-megawatt Maiden Creek solar facility located in the Catawba County town of Maiden and the 25-MW Gaston solar facility located in the Gaston County town of Bessemer City are a part of the expansion of Duke’s clean energy portfolio, the company said in a July 27 news release.
The sites were selected through a competitive bidding process, and once completed, will have close to 400,000 solar panels and be able to power approximately 20,000 residences and businesses, Duke Energy said in the news release.
“Building more solar supports Duke Energy’s strategy of lowering carbon emissions as we strive to meet our 2050 net-zero carbon goal,” Stephen De May, Duke Energy’s North Carolina president, said in the news release. “We participated in a rigorous bidding process – competing with other companies to bring more renewable energy to the state.”
The facilities are slated to go online by the end of 2020.
