Guilford College said it recently ranked in the Top 40 out of 416 colleges and universities when it comes to being "green."

The ranking comes out of the Princeton Review's Guide to Green Colleges in the United States.

"I'm very proud that Guilford College has once again earned such a high ranking in the Princeton Review's Guide to Green Colleges," Director of Environmental Sustainability David Petree in an Oct. 26 release from the college. "It demonstrates that Guilford has created a campus culture of environmental sustainability."

The Princeton Review considered 695 colleges. It selected schools based on a survey of administrators who were asked a series of questions about the environmental sustainability of their institutions.

"We strongly recommend Guilford College to students who want to study and live at a green college," Rob Franek, the Princeton Review's Editor-in-Chief said in the release. "Each and every one of the outstanding colleges in this edition of our guide offers both excellent academics and exemplary evidence of environmental commitment. "
