University Of North Carolina Greensboro issued the following announcement on Nov. 18.
The UNC Greensboro priority filing period for the FAFSA (Free Application for Federal Student Aid) is now open. All current and prospective students are encouraged to complete their FAFSA by Jan. 15 to be considered a priority filer.
Here’s what Spartans need to know:
- Students must submit a FAFSA each year in order to continue to receive aid.
- UNCG’s institutional funds and certain state funds are limited. Students who file early have a better chance of receiving these funds, in addition to any federal aid they may receive, such as Pell Grants.
- The Office of Financial Aid and Scholarships is offering virtual FAFSA completion workshops every Friday until Nov. 19. The online workshops are held from 1-3 p.m., and you can register for these workshops here.
- Items that students might need to complete their FAFSA include:
- Social Security Number
- Alien Registration Number (if student is not a U.S. citizen)
- Prior year federal income tax returns, W-2s, and other records of money earned. (Note: Many students and parents are able to transfer your federal tax return information into your FAFSA using the IRS Data Retrieval Tool.)
- Bank statements and records of investments (if applicable)
- Records of untaxed income (if applicable)
- An FSA ID to sign electronically
- Undergraduate dependent students will need the above information for their parents during filing as well. Make sure both the student and parent (for undergraduate dependent students) sign the FAFSA or it will be rejected.
UNCG students receive more than $200 million in financial aid annually. The University awards $10 million in institutional aid, including scholarships, each year.
