The Greensboro City Council isn't showing much interest in working on next year's budget as almost the same budget has been proposed in the past three budget sessions, the Rhino Times reported.
On May 26, Budget and Evaluation Director John Decker presented a budget to the council, which was almost the same as City Manager David Parrish's budget presentation from May 19, the Rhino Times reported May 27. This proposed spending plan was also the same as the budget update that Assistant City Manager Larry Davis gave during the May 5 session.
The proposed budget for the FY 2020-2021 is approximately $612.5 million, the Rhino Times reported. With a gap of $7 million in the budget due to the COVID-19 pandemic, some cuts and reductions were made.
Many maintenance projects will be delayed and money for nonprofits will be reduced, which will save $535,000, according to the Rhino Times. There will also be a $240,000 reduction to the Parks and Recreation Department and a $145,000 reduction to the library's budget.
