The death of a Liberty woman's 88-year old grandmother who was a resident at Maple Grove Health and Rehabilitation in Greensboro, just two days after testing positive for COVID-19, has prompted an investigation by state health officials and the questioning of the facility's reported Coronavirus stats, according to reports.
Cathy Hartman's grandmother, Nellie Smith, who was among 11 residents at Maple Grove who tested positive for Coronavirus, died on June 4, the News & Record reported on June 11. Hartman alleges the family was told that morning of Smith's death and her positive test results.
Hartman told the News & Record, that the number of cases reported to the families of Maple Grove residents was lower than those submitted to the state.
The News & Record questioned the results and received an email from the North Carolina Department of Health and Human Services confirming inaccuracies, stating that it is "not consistent with the [health] department's electronic disease surveillance system."
Hartman also told the News & Record she believes the facility failed to put social-distancing and other preventative measures in place to prevent her grandmother's death and the Coronavirus cases.
The facility did not respond to News & Record requests for comment.
