City Has Contracted with a Durham Firm to Re-survey the Downtown District | CITY OF GREENSBORO: (greensboro-nc.gov)
City of Greensboro issued the following announcement on Jan. 6.
Raise your hand if you knew the Downtown Greensboro Historic District is listed in the national Register of Historic Places?
Yup...since 1982.
And due to a recent public push to update that listing, the City has contracted with a Durham firm to re-survey the downtown district.
Two suggested updates are to:
• Expand the Downtown Greensboro Historic District to include mid-20th century resources, such as the Governmental Plaza complex
• Extend the district's period of significance to 1963 to include Greensboro's civil rights marches and events.
Want to learn more and to give your input on the proposed listing updates? Attend a City-hosted meeting at 6 pm Thursday, January 19, at the Greensboro History Museum Auditorium, 130 Summit Ave.
