Shopping carts are becoming a nuisance in Greensboro, North Carolina.
Greensboro City Council members have heard complaints about shopping carts all over the city, including on sidewalks and in the middle of streets, according to a Fox 8 report.
“No matter where you live in Greensboro, you will see a shopping cart … in a place where it just shouldn’t be,” said Mayor, Nancy Vaughan.
City Councilwoman, Tammi Thurm, said she gets frustrated when she drives around on weekends, because she can count several shopping carts in random places.
The City Council is considering solutions, including a mandate for cart removal prevention and retrieval plans for businesses, according to the report.
“This is not intended to be applied to homeless people,” said Chief Deputy City Attorney, Al Andrews. “It is applied to anybody because it is not just homeless people who borrow carts. People who want to move stuff borrow carts or people find carts and further move them."
Carts being left around the city present a safety hazard as they can impede traffic flow and roll into things, Fox 8 reported.
“They can roll into the street at any given moment, hit someone, cause an accident,” Tracey Mills-Howell, a shopper, told Fox 8. “To see them on the side of the road is disturbing."
