Ballinger Road at the bridge over King George Branch Remain Closed | CITY OF GREENSBORO: (greensboro-nc.gov)
City of Greensboro issued the following announcement on Feb. 1.
Ballinger Road at the bridge over King George Branch may remain closed longer than expected due to rainy weather this winter.
Traffic will continue to be detoured at Chimney Rock Road and Wakefield Drive until further notice. Drivers who need to access Leonard Recreation Center should do so from the west by going past the closed sign at Chimney Rock Road.
Ballinger Road resurfacing is the last part of the overall bridge project, which began in mid-2021. The bridge work is complete, but initial layers of asphalt must be laid down on completely dry roadway stone. This generally requires seven consecutive days of dry weather with five more dry days after to complete preliminary paving. Dry stone is key to a quality, long-lasting finished roadway surface.
As soon as these preliminary layers of asphalt are down, Ballinger Road on both sides of the bridge will reopen to traffic. Final resurfacing of the road will then take place when the weather warms, closer to spring.
