Congresswoman Kathy Manning, representing North Carolina’s 6th district, recently shared a series of messages on social media addressing significant cultural and social issues. Manning has been serving in Congress since 2021 after succeeding Mark Walker. Born in Detroit, Michigan in 1956, she currently resides in Greensboro and holds degrees from Harvard University and the University of Michigan.
On October 11, Congresswoman Manning extended her wishes for those observing Yom Kippur by saying "Wishing a safe, meaningful fast to all those observing Yom Kippur. G’mar chatima tovah."
On October 14, she addressed concerns regarding misinformation affecting Hurricane Helene relief efforts. She stated that "The dangerous spread of misinformation is making it harder for North Carolinians impacted by Hurricane Helene to get the help they need and threatening the safety of our brave emergency responders. This must stop now."
Later on October 14, Congresswoman Manning marked Indigenous Peoples’ Day with a message honoring Native American heritage and pledging her commitment to justice for indigenous communities. She expressed that "On Indigenous Peoples’ Day, we honor the rich cultural heritage of Native Americans and reflect on their contributions to our nation’s history. Today, I stand firm in my commitment to seeking justice for and upholding the rights of indigenous communities."
